I've begun experimenting with that King of Shaves Oil (with Teak Tree Oil) I picked up this summer while travelling. Currently, I'm using it for touching up, rather than re-lathering and doing a complete second pass, as I regularly do. Seems to work just fine. It does not stain the blade, so far as I can tell.
Speaking of Borax, I've got some Indian shave cream, I also picked up while travelling the main ingredients of which are glycerine and boric acid. Another major seller in India is the Antiseptic cream called Boroline which is a mix of Boric acid, zinc oxide, lanlolin and petroleum jelly. While travelling rubbed this stuff onto my skin after shaving.
