Shaved by Attila
Gentlemen,
Attila the Hun shaved me today, sweeping across my face without mercy. I rarely cut or nick myself, but today I scored three bull's eyes. No, the nicks were minor, perhaps one a disrespectful zit that was beheaded, but it's a question of my pride, for I am known to myself as Obie the No Nick.
I can't quite nail down the reason for my less than desirable shave today, since my extensive, and pleasing, preparation was the same as always. The only reason that makes sense is my daring and reckless decision to alter the angle of the blade. Ordinarily I keep the angle between 20 and 30 degrees, mostly around 20. I think I went higher today and met up with Attila.
The razor I used is the Dovo 6/8" Renaissance. It's a lovely razor, but I must have incited her anger by treating her a bit more adventurously than she likes. I admit, I was a touch too cavalier in my treatment of her. All right, then, I get the message: Don't ruin a good relationship, especially if you've enjoyed it for a long while.
Tomorrow, while Lady Renaissance rests, I will use a Dovo 5/8" "perlex" and revert to my old habits.
The moral of the story is this, gentlemen: show respect — and take your hat off at the dinner table.
Regards,
Obie

Focus is probably the best word. I was thinking of work while shaving a few days ago. Put a pretty good cut in my cheek. It takes such a short loss of focus to remind one to pay attention...

Gentlemen,
Dan's point is well taken. Shaving with a straight, although one of life's great pleasures, and rewards, requires focus. The art of it is a daring adventure, after all, and a splendid one, but it can go awry without the necessary focus.
Thank you for your thoughts, Dan.

Obie
