Thread: Normal Shaving Routine

I'm kinda curious how much variation we have in shaving rituals. This is my normal routine. If I have time to pamper myself, I'll typically do a 1st lather-wait-hot towel-re lather maneuver. I usually strop the night before, or strop all of the razors on the weekend.

Shower
Lather - 1st pass with grain
Hot towel wipedown
Lather - 2nd pass against grain
Hot towel wipedown
Water only - chin & straggler cleanup
Cold water rinse
Aftershave
Moisturizer

After doing the mach3 speed shave routine for 40+ years, it's been hard for me to learn to relax and treat myself to a spa-like experience... but I'm trying.

My usual daily routine now is to shower & towel-dry, lather, strop, shave pass1, wet fingers and moisten areas needing pass2 & re-shave them, wipe/dry razor, wipe face with warm face-cloth, splash cold water, pat dry, and apply Bay Rum or a cologne. Elapsed time ~ 20-min.

I'm just getting into the swing myself, but here's the general routine I've fallen into.

Shower
More hot water on the face
Cream
1st pass includes mostly with and some minor across the grain
More hot water on the face
Cream
2nd pass includes a mix of across and against the grain
More hot water
3rd against the grain cleanup
Cold water on the face
After shave

X

wash razor,
dry razor,
strop,
shower,
lather,
disinfect razor,
shave 1,
lather,
shave 2,
wash face hot,
wash face cold,
wash brush,
wash razor,
dry brush,
aftershave on,
dry razor,
put underware,
oil razor,
make me cup of tea (optional),
enjoy...

Current home shaving routine:
apply moisturizer
strop razor(s)
put 1 1/2 c water in pyrex into micro (6.5 min delay, 2.5min hi)
put razor(s) in Barbicide
shower
retrieve razors, place on dry towel
get boiling water from micro
pour 1/3 of water into lathering mug
place SMF brush bristles into water in pyrex
apply shave oil
shake brush out to level appropriate for lather du jour
pour mug water back into pyrex, place mug over water
lather up (aaahhhh!)
N-S pass
lather
E-W pass
lather
S-N pass
wipe off with cold wet cloth
clean razor(s) and brush
rinse out glassware
apply AS du jour
feel like a million bucks
