Lots of great specific advice from top people in the field. I will just say this is also important for me,
1.the only time I still get a nick which is rare is when I am too tired(I shave at the end of my day)
2.if I have a brain fart and let a problem that I had that day into my shaving den with my razor.
I know this is not specific advice but it really is what makes my shaves so wonderful. Fortunatly, it is a rare day I will miss my shave.

+1 on learning to use the other hand. I stumbled across a nifty exercise to improve the dexterity and confidence of the non-dominant hand-- if you are a face-latherer, use the left hand to build lather on the left side of your face, and the right hand to build lather on the right side of your face. It takes a couple of weeks to get the fast smooth circles down with the brush, but I think it helps (it is a *lot* easier shaving with the non-dominant hand than it is to generate lather with it...)

That has been my take on it too. If it works why fix it. OTOH, I think about when I broke my collar bone 5 or 6 years ago and couldn't use my left hand for much for 5 weeks. The possibility that I might have something like that happen again and the challenge have got me interested in learning to shave with the opposite hand.
