Thread: Back Surgery

After fits and starts, I've been shaving with a straight razor exclusively for only about 2 weeks now.

Wednesday morning I had surgery on my back to remove a bulging disc.

What does one have to do with the other?

Today I was given the green light to shower by the surgeon. So, of course I wanted to shave as well and guess what? I can't lift both arms to stretch my skin and shave with my C-Mon.

I had to use my Merkur HD safety razor to shave and I have to tell you... even with the searing pain my back... right now I'm missing that shave more than anything.

So with that in mind, why aren't blades regulated to carry an alert or some sort.

Nobody told me how much I would come to depend on a good straight shave to get my day going in the right direction.

Ugh!!! Back surgery as well as not being able to straight shave? Oh, man...'double whamy! Im sorry dude.

That is the hardest part about going through with it. You just never know. I talked to other people and went on the net. It seemed like 85% said it was a big improvement. 10 percent said it was a little worse and 5% said it was the biggest mistake in their lives.

I do know this, in the future when i refer to something and say, "Well, it can always be worse." this is what I'll be referring to.

I had a ruptured disk removed also, some years ago, and I hope yours works out as well as mine did. After putting up with the problem for a few years, the surgery was pretty much no choice. But now at least it's FIXED!!!
It took a few weeks to get to where I could raise my hands straight up, because the nerve sheaths have been abraded and have to heal. You might see if your wife is willing to (literally) lend you a hand. No, not with the shaving, just the stretching!

I'm glad you said that about the nerve sheaths needing time to heal. The issue cause pain down my right leg and it's not changed and that was a concern. What you say makes sense.

Sounds like your surgery went ok; take care and heal up so you can get back to shaving with a proper razor!
