Thanked: 43Back Surgery
After fits and starts, I've been shaving with a straight razor exclusively for only about 2 weeks now.
Wednesday morning I had surgery on my back to remove a bulging disc.
What does one have to do with the other?
Today I was given the green light to shower by the surgeon. So, of course I wanted to shave as well and guess what? I can't lift both arms to stretch my skin and shave with my C-Mon.
I had to use my Merkur HD safety razor to shave and I have to tell you... even with the searing pain my back... right now I'm missing that shave more than anything.
So with that in mind, why aren't blades regulated to carry an alert or some sort.
Warning: The APA as determined repeated use of this razor will lead to Obsessive Shaving Disorder and serious R.A.D. For more information please consult Straight Razor Place
Nobody told me how much I would come to depend on a good straight shave to get my day going in the right direction.
Jeeze, thanks for the heads up guys.

Get well soon ! I hope your surgery turns out to have fixed things instead of making them worse.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 154Sounds like your surgery went ok; take care and heal up so you can get back to shaving with a proper razor!

Thanked: 43That is the hardest part about going through with it. You just never know. I talked to other people and went on the net. It seemed like 85% said it was a big improvement. 10 percent said it was a little worse and 5% said it was the biggest mistake in their lives.
I do know this, in the future when i refer to something and say, "Well, it can always be worse." this is what I'll be referring to.

I had a ruptured disk removed also, some years ago, and I hope yours works out as well as mine did. After putting up with the problem for a few years, the surgery was pretty much no choice. But now at least it's FIXED!!!
It took a few weeks to get to where I could raise my hands straight up, because the nerve sheaths have been abraded and have to heal. You might see if your wife is willing to (literally) lend you a hand. No, not with the shaving, just the stretching!

Back Surgery
While you recuperate, remember the reward that lies ahead in addition to a repaired back: a gentleman's shave.

Thanked: 51After having 15 different orthopedic operations, I know how you feel. Getting flexibility after surgery does take some time. If they gave you exercises to do, make sure you do them religiously. In time you will get back to being able lift your arms up. In the mean time maybe you could find a barber that could give you a shave, or maybe you wife can do some kind of "sexy hair stylist" routine and give you a nice, warm lather filled ( maybe lather in other places hehe shave.
Who knows, you might enjoy something like that.
