Default Do you need to re-apply pre-shave oil if you're going to do a second pass?

Will it stay on if you want to do another pass like against the grain or something else?

    Default My take

I reapply it after every pass. The blade seems to squeegee it off pretty thoroughly -- good thing, since otherwise skin stretching would be difficult.

I like it for a thorough first pass only. I don't use preshave oil anymore. Instead, I use Castille Soap that is part water and part oil and it costs a lot less and can be used for more applications.

My shaving soap does find on its own for the next pass or third clean up pass.

    Good Luck!

I only use on the first, and continue to reapply hot towel inbetween passes.

I say whether you re-apply it or not is a personal thing. I've heard argument that the oil provides a better shave as the blade can glide over the skin better. I've also heard that the oil does not provide a better shave because the oil keeps the blade from catching the hairs as well.

I haven't noticed a difference one way or the other. Sometimes I apply it before each pass, sometimes just before the first pass, sometimes not at all.

In my opinion a sharp blade, good soap, and proper prep are the most important things.

But to answer the question after my rant...If you like using the oil during the shave then re-apply it. I don't think enough would be left on your face after the first pass to make a difference.

I used to be a big fan of shave oil.

I started using it before the first pass.....then started to add itr in between passes as well....

What I decided is that it lubes up your face so well, that it was preventing me from getting a close shave!

I stopped using it altogether, and I don't miss it at all.

Once in a great while I'll give a before the 1st pass shave oil treatment, but never again shale I re-lube after the 1st pass. I like my BBS too much!
