Thanked: 3Hot towel/pre-shave oil question
If I put a hot washcloth over my shaving cream covered face for 3 minutes without taking a shower, then re-apply more shaving cream, do I need pre-shave oil?

Thanked: 402Are you trying to dissolve your beard chemically?
Give up on it. Not even pure lye will make hair much softer.
Use the hot towel with no soap on the face.
Its supposed to open the pores. Not much more.

Thanked: 1903Not really. You're having others seeing this thing through for you. Unless you've bothered to look before asking: Let me google that for you
Interesting idea.

Thanked: 402Wouldn't it be useful to all sum it up in a pre shave thread?
Such a lot of threads on one topic are really a bit distracting.

Funny, funny stuff.
You may notthink so FS. but it is.
Sorry I have not followed your quest. Do you have a really sharp smooth shaving razor? After that the rest falls into place right away.

Do you think this whole endeavor is about knowledge?
It's simple, you are cutting hairs. That's it. You can get a barbershop quality shave with $4 cream and a $30 razor with no brush and a cracked and dry strop. I know, because I've -almost- done it. It takes experience, and skill.
I've been straight shaving for a month, I have mediocre supplies and a pile of freebie cream to shave with, and I'm getting shaves I didn't know you could achieve.
Just shave. It will hurt, you will bleed, but no amount of reading is going to shave you.

Thanked: 3Um, isn't what this thing is for? It's to discuss the art of shaving. You learn from others, as well as helping others with your information. I'm not the only one with these questions. You don't know if i've searched for these questions on Google. Finding answers on Google isn't as easy as it looks. Just because you had a bad day doesn't mean you can take it out on others. But don't worry, it doesn't bother me.
