To My Infant Grandson
* Dear boy,
May you blossom into a gentleman with a keen intellect and a kind heart.
Know profound love.
Accept people for what they are without passing judgment on them.
Read good books and listen to good music.
Write a good sentence.
Love food and wine — and an occasional cognac and cigar.
Someday, a long time from now, my straight razors will be yours. Treat them as friends, and with respect. Take time to master them. Yet, give a bow to the older masters of the straight razor, because they will always know more than you do.
And before I forget, may yours be a light beard that grows in one direction.
Your loving grandfather and a straight razor pilgrim,
Obie

You aren't going anywhere are you Obie?
In my line of work if someone sent that letter to me without a pretext, I would be worried. As I am now.
Nice toast, but still worried.

To My Infant Grandson
My dear Singlewedge,
Bless your heart for your concern. I am grateful.
No, I plan to be around for quite a while. At least I hope I will.
What started my line of thought was when I realized in about a year or so I must find a higher and safer place to keep my straight razors. I fear my infant grandson, who already looks like a shrunken offensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers, will take my modest condo apart one piece at a time.
And what's more attractive than a shiny straight razor? Oy . . .
Stay well, and thank you again.
Regards,
Obie
