Next Upgrade: Lather.
So... I've worked my way up from a beater razor, VDH set and Levi strop to a good rotation, decent strop, badger brush and a few small accoutrements.
Now what needs to improve is the lather. I have sampled some custom creams from a member here, and will be putting in an order as soon as I can. I also currently have Rivivage Soap (Gold-dachse) and Proraso Cream. However... I think I have SSAD/SCAD.
My main question is about Mitchell's Wool Fat.
-I know about the lather issue (have it or don't) but is it possible to work through it if one is determined enough?
-The container it comes in- could one lather, or at least start a lather, on the puck and move to one's face?
-I know this is somewhat iffy, but is soap resale possible? If I get some, don't like it, use 90%, would I be able to recoup some of my losses? Is there a sample size anywhere?
The main reason I ask is I found a Dish and Soap, new in box, on sale for a little over $30, and seeing as this is normally $50 (soap normally $20) I thought I might like to give a $20 soap a try.
Also, from what I've tried, creams and soaps yield the same end result, and its somewhat easier for me to use creams right now (put a dollop in my bowl and walk to the bathroom) but I far prefer the soaps (weird right?) so far.

You can face lather with a soap if that is what you prefer. That way you can just take your soap mug with you and you should be all set. Mitchell's wool fat seems to be a soap that either you love or hate. Some people swear by it others get irritation from it. The only way to know is to try. And yes I have seen people sell the soaps/creams that they don't particularly care for on the classifieds. Just make sure it is well documented that it is not new.

Thanked: 13247Karl I am running light on MWF so I will hold off ordering some and wait for you to try it...
If you decide you don't like it, I will take the rest off yer hands at a mutually fair price....
If you like it just fire me a PM and I will order my own...

I actually just bought some MWF on vacation this past weekend.
I tried it yesterday on a headshave and found it to be worthy of all the accolades here. I got a good lather in a mug but I preferred lathering right on my skin. I'm pretty new to lathering with soap and found MWF to come together rather easily. Might have been beginner's luck, though.

I wasn't aware of Mitchell's Wool Fat. But, it sounds interesting, and I would like to try it. If anyone on this message want to send me a small amount, even enough for only one or two shaves, I would be glad to PayPal you $5, or whatever is fair to you.

Just a heads up. I bought it. There is still one available though, and refills for $10+$4 shipping.

From what I gather, the type of water in your area might determine how you get on with MWF. Personally, I love it, I always get a great lather with it and when I combine it with a small dollop of Musgo Real cream it borders on magical.
