I knew I would get it!
Well I had to post this post. I have been shaving with a straight razor for 2 months now but only 2 weeks or so weeks with my new Real DOVO straight razor ( I was using a shavette before).
The first one, as many of you read my post, was not good to say the least. But now, you would think I have been shaving for years. Even in the chin area. In fact, I am getting closer on my chin than I ever did with a Mach 3. Another surprise to me is I am getting closer under my chin, on my neck than I ever have. Still a little work needed on either side of my neck along my wind pipe, but still closer than ever.
I would like to mention a few problems I noticed that once corrected gave me a better shave.
- I was using the wrong product. I thought I was getting some major razor burn but in fact I think it was more of an allergic reaction to a product. So if one is having trouble at first, try changing your prep product.
- I was using too much pressure trying to desperately achieve a close shave. Once I stopped with the heavy pressure and realized I was going to have to make two passes the shave was successful and VERY close.
- Slightly adjusting of angle in certain areas of the face. This was not a big problem really as I am a barber and shaved successfully with a shavette, but I did notice once I changed the angle in certain areas the razor glided easier.
One thing I also realized is the advice here is totally awesome but as awesome as it is everyone will have to change things slightly to get the bbs shave. Definitely listen here but once you dive in you will notice that everyone is different and you have to do what works for you. (Don't misunderstand this statement, I am not undermining anyone's advice in this forum, if it were not for this forum i would need a blood transfusion by now.)

You've obviously learned a lot, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Glad the shaves are going well.

yep, once a person gets those smooth daily shaves w/ out any irritation and or bumps.... it gives one something to look forward to.
