    Default Your thoughts.

    Hello Everyone,

I've been checking SRP out for awhile as a guest and finally become a member. I was hoping to get your thoughts on the Theirs-Issard super gnome as a first str8. I think I read somewhere that a half hollowed razor would be better starting out than a "singing" full hollowed b/c it will be easier to maintain. Any truth to that??

    Thanks for your help,

    Nick

    Smile Hi Gent

I'd have to disagree. The few half hollows I have been honing are harder to get up to snuff. I think the wisdom behind recommending that noobs stay away from the full hollow is if they plan to hone them themselves. It's certainly easier to see you errors on a double hollow. That said, I've been honing as a noobie on double hollows without much problem. I just have a few experimental hone blades and save the ones I like till I have a clear idea what I want to do. I'd say pay for the extra hollow and you'll probably be thanking yourself that you did every time you shave.

    Hello!

First off, I have noticed no diffference in honing the half hollow or the full hollow.

Second, how wide is the Super Gnome 4/8, 5/8, 6/8?

Third, do you have an average beard, thick beard, coarse, wirey.

    Let us know.

The Super Gnome I was looking at was a 6/8. I think they make it in 5/8 as well. My beard is pretty average, maybe a little corse. So if there isn't that much difference, I may as well get a full hollowed "singing" for about $10 more? Especially if I'll be happier with it in the long run.

    Thanks,

    Nick

Thanks for your help guys. When I make up my mind, I'll be sure to let you know what I decided on. Thats when the questions will really start. This is really a great thing you have going here.

    Thanks again for your help.
