Thread: Barber Shop - Worst shave EVER!

I like my barber, so in his defense, I think that either he's young and hence inexperienced. Or he does so few straight razor shaves that he's not yet gotten the rhythm of 'em. I'm sure NYC is full of great barber shaves to be had. Next time I'm down, I'll take a recommendation :-)

Thanked: 0He was an older gentleman who had his son working in the shop. My guess is that it's been the family business for some time. During the shave I asked if he does many. His reply: about one a week. In his defense, what ever rhythm he might had had probably isn't well maintened at that rate.
I just got my dubl duck back from Lynn today. I'm eager to begin! Maybe after my face takes the weekend off tho. =]

Thanked: 0A Florida str8 Shave?
Hmmm.. I live in Palm Beach County and I've been told by local Barbers that the board of health does not permit barbers to give str8 shaves in the state of Florida. Since I'm much closer to Miami I was looking to see an old time barber there, but that tid bit did stop me.
FYI;Try the feather aftershave lotion at Classicshaving.com it comes in as part of a pair of samples (shaving and after-shave lotions) for $5.00 you can't beat it with a stick. The after shave lotion instantly quenches any burn sensation and a drop the size of a dime is more than enough for my whole face.

I'm not sure how true this is, but I've heard that if you want to learn to shave someone else you should practice on an inflated balloon. When you can remove all the lather with out popping the balloon, your ready to try on a person. Take the guy a ballon and tell him to practice.lol

I was going to take my brother to get a straight shave the day before thanksgiving. We are both in our early 20's and he thinks I am nuts for using a straight. He seems excited to get a shave from a barber and so am I. However, reading this thread makes me a little worried. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences shaving myself with a straight, I don't want to ruin it by having a barber filet my neck. The guys that is the barber is young, maybe early 30's at the most. He runs a barber/peircing/tatoo shop. He doesn't do the piercings or tatoos, just the barber stuff. He is trying to make the shop 'old school' He said that in the olden days there were tatoos offered at barber shops and he is trying to bring back that feel. It seems pretty cool. My roommate got his tatoo colored there and he said that when you go in you can sit on a couch, grab a beer, OJ or bottled water (for free) and check the place out.
I am going to go for the shave. It just better be better than what I can do to myself...or I will be dissapointed.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone...

Ryan,
Treat yourself to a shave first. Find out how good he is. If it's a great shave, you can go back with our bother. If it is not a quality shave, you won't have to take your brother.

Perfect idea, I think I will go tomorrow! If he is really good I may not even need one on wednesday.

Double your pleasure, double your fun, get two shaves, instead of one!
