For me each shave is a ritual from the mental choice of what products I'm going to use, anticipation, soaking of the brush, prep, shave and after shave treatment. That means I take my time and truly fully enjoy the 20-30 minutes of personal pampering. BBS each and every time. If for some reason I can't give my shave the full treatment it deserves I won't shave. Plain and simple.

I'm just like Max on this one. I have a job in which I can let my beard grow out for as long as I want. I usually shave at night every 4-7 days and I go Whole Hog when I do. Hot towels, Uber Lather, Mozart, Re strop, the works. It's ME time. I go for a perfect ten when I shave, and that always results in BBS. No BS. -J

Not every time. It depends on my razor, and my mood. Lately I've been just doing a one pass WTG, and that is an acceptable, good, smooth shave. And then if I have some good lather left, I'll do a "clean up" pass.

just went through an Ebay campaign where I was test shaving multiple razors every day. I did not wish to do BBS because it lasts too long. So I was just doing one pass, I wanted more whiskers left for the next day's shave tests. As it turns out, I've gotten rather used to a one pass shave.

I shave every day. I do a different number of passes depending on the area: cheeks and neck require three; chin four; and moustache five (N-S, E-W, W-E, SW-NE, SE-NW). This is what is needed for BBS for me. Very rarely (last time was a couple weeks ago when I had a reaction to a new soap; this summer at the beach) if my skin is irritated, I'll just do a couple of passes -- but 350 days of the year I aim for and achieve total BBS.

    TEHO (to each his own).

I shave every day and I always go for a BBS. First I do a north to south pass, then a south to north. After these two passes my face is pretty smooth in most areas so now it is just a matter of getting those hairs that escaped. With practice I now know just where they hide. So with a few specialty strokes to get these patches, that make up the third pass,it's all over and I'm smoooooth.

When I first started I felt I needed to get a BBS shave every time. Now only when I feel like it or going someplace special. Most days it is just one pass WTG.

I go for BBS every day. After I discovered the pleasure of wet shaving and Straight Razors I set my wake up call 20 minutes earlier in the morning just to get that special feeling of a great shave with warm lather, a wonderful, soft Simpson Super Badger and a BBS in the end. My skin seems to enjoy passes in every direction, so I am not satisfied before a BBS appears

I do a mix of WTG and XTG passes and this gets me mostly BBS. I could sit there and really work to get the last difficult bits totally smooth but most of the time I just go with what I get after a normal shave.

Max said it well. I go for total BBS every single time, taking the 20-30 minutes to do everything right and do a good job is a wonderful experience that leaves me feeling satisfied, and sticks with me until I get to do it again the next morning. I make the extra time for this, it is worth every second. It makes my skin feel great, though it took some practice before it could say this of every shave. Having it all come together just right every time, for me, is a big part of the pleasure of searching for and using great shaving products and great straight razors, and also of learning how to hone.

When I first started I tried getting a BBS shave and a couple times I got pretty close to a full BBS shave.

The only problem with that is I kinda look like a 12-year old when I do that.

Maybe if I get a girl friend that cares that much about it I'll do it but otherwise I'd rather not look like a prepubescent.
