Default How do you hold your razor?

I was just wondering how all of you gentlemen hold your razor. I shave by holding the razor in my right hand only. I shave both sides of my face with my right hand. I also only use three finger's to hold my razor in my hand. I use my index finger only over the tang rather than two finger's. I guess my hands are too big to use two finger's in front of the pivot on the tang.

    Are my techniques normal?

What kinds of technique's are you gentlemen using while you shave?

I use both hands. I hold my thumb on the bottom of the tang, first two fingers on the top with the third finger on the other side of the scales resting on the curled end of the tang. My pinkie finger is held straight up like a posh person drinking tea!

Like this. The WIKI is great.

I also shave right-handed only.I also use one finger over as you do.When I shave my left side,i have to change my grip and I end up with my index finger along the top of the spine lengthwise.I did train myself to shave two-handed and did that for a month or two,but eventually switched back.As long as you can shave safely,I don't think there's a wrong way to grip the tang.

There is no "correct way" to hold a razor. I think what ever is natural to you is a good place to start.

But... Here s an excellent article showing different types of grips that can be used.

I'm trying to become ambidexterous but have a touch of artharitis which makes using the left hand a little iffy. I don't have trouble using both hands on my cheeks & sideburns but the delicate area of mustache & chin get scary sometimes.

I put my thumb on the bottom of the tang but the curved portion goes between the ring and pinky finger. I saw that on a youtube video and find better control that way.

three fingers, like you, one handed shaver also. No plans to change.

When I do the left side of my face, I physically turn the razor round in my hand and use four finger. My index finger on the monkey tail, middle and ring finger on the top of the tang.

I taught myself to hold the razor in the traditional way as shown in the wiki. Sometimes I use a Japanese grip when I go ATG on the neck though.

I'd have to say, what ever works for you as well. I still shave with my right hand, I cannot shave with both. So I have to make some adjustments along the way.
