    Default Shaving stick

Will someone please tell me the proper way to use a shaving stick? I bought a Speick shaving stick, thinking that it would be packaged sorta like stick deoderant, in that you'd twist the bottom and the product would move up out of the tube. When I opened the box, I was surprised to find out that the shaving stick is nothing more than stick-shaped shaving soap wrapped in foil. Is this typical of shaving sticks? What's the advantage of the stick form -- why not just use regular shaving soap? Are you supposed to wet your face, then rub it with the stick, and then use a brush to work up a lather on your face? I just don't see any advantage to using a shaving stick, but perhaps someone can enlighten me. Thanks.

    Use it as you suggest.
    Prep your face as usual.
    Splash with hot water.
Rub with shave stick in a nice circular motion. (You're looking to see small bubbles begin to appear, like a thin, pathetic lather)
Get your wet brush & set it to work.
You'll have to experiment a bit to see how much to use, but you should get a fine lather from it.

Forgot to answer about why they get used.
One reason is that they're very convenient when you're travelling.
Also, i think a few of the manufacturers use slightly different formulations for the sticks than their other products, & we do like to try out every conceivable form, just in case it's that tiny bit better!

It takes practice. I picked up an IK stick from bassguy last week and I am still trying to perfect it. If you google how to use a shave stick, there is a nice picture tutorial at B&B

Mama Bear's sells the kind of shaving stick you thought you'd get. They have some pictures on their site to show how to use it. I've tried a couple, and they work reasonably well. I can see how they would be handy for travel, although they are a little on the large size.

I use the shave sticks from QED and D.R. Harris. I just got a stick of Irisch Moos too. All of them work well. When I use the QED I reapply the SS between passes.
