Am I missing out???
This morning I had just a great shave. I have two st8's that are hollow grinds, I usually think how can it get any better? I'm just gliding through my beard and having a lot of fun every day. Today I thought, gee, what if there is an even better experience? With another type of grind, like a quarter hollow or a wedge? Sounds like most people own different kinds of grinds. Am I missing out???
Thanks,
Brian

If all you are looking for is a great shave it sounds like you are there (although, in my experience the shaves will continue to improve with more practice).
You are completely correct that there may be other razors that will be more to your liking and will help broaden the enjoyment of using a straight. For a lot of guys this is where it starts getting fun...trying different sizes, grinds, blade materials, etc. Without trying too hard to build a collection it's not unlikely that you will find yourself with a bunch of razors in your active rotation. It doesn't have to be expensive, but it can be if you get the ADs (aquisition disorders).
If you're curious, why not try another size or grind?

Thanked: 1936Different grinds, steels, and soooo much more. I got lucky at a flea market and bought a handful of SR's. I'm not done with them all, but have enjoyed the process of bringing them back to life, honing & polishing the edge, and the best treat of all......shaving with them. Other than my first SR I bought from one of the major vendors, all of my SR's have costed me less than $20 each. Sure I have a lot of time and energy in them, but after you have spent many hours on bringing it back to life, the shave is such a reward. Did I happen to mention "many" hours?

Thanked: 96There's a barber manual in the wiki that seems to suggest that full hollows are the best and the only reason to ever use anything else is because wedge, etc are simpler... but inferior.
Most people here seem to think it's all the same or a personal preference.

Thanked: 190If all is in order, you should always get a great shave from just about any straight razor. This morning, I got the usually BBS shave from my inexpensive disposable straight shave blade on its forth shave.
The long run will determine which ones you have a preference for and why: Maintains its edge longer, easy to sharpen or hone, consistency in performance, just feels better, like the way it sounds,...etc.
It sounds likes you have the most important part down and are ready to explore more.
Good Luck,
Pabster

You are! You're missing out! Well.......you might not be, but unless you try a few, you'll never know.
Could you go through life with that nagging voice whispering, "There's a grind out there that's even better"?
Try a few. You may have got lucky first time round & find that hollows really are best for you, & even if that is the case, at least you'll know for sure.

You have just taken a step onto a very slippery slope. Turn back if you can! It's too late for the rest of us, but you still have time! Run! Run boy! Ruuuuuunnnnnnnn!!!!!
(please note that for proper effect, the theme music from Camelot should be playing in the background)

To the OP:
Be content with the two you have.
Once upon a time I had two, and I was content.
And then I said to myself "but what about......."
And now I am reduced to a blathering, late-night Ebay lurking , classifieds stalking, bug-eyed RAD victim.
Turn back, beyond this point there be dragons......
