    Default Beware the dull razor!

I wanted to share this little anecdote as a warning to others who may be tempted to do what I did.

I've been shaving with a straight long enough to where I routinely get a great, BBS shave and seldom nick myself, and on the rare occasions when I do, it's just a slight "weeper." Well, this morning I grabbed a razor that was in need of a serious touch-up, but I decided, what the heck, it would be OK for just one more shave. Well, let me tell you, it was like I was shaving with a straight for the very first time -- cuts everywhere. I finally understood the old saying that I had read time and time again here in SRP: A dull blade will cut you quicker than a sharp blade. I suppose the lesson here is to not try to take shortcuts. Oh well, life is a learning process, right?

    Well, that stinks!

I've never chopped myself up with a dull blade, but it's certainly unpleasant...like pulling them out with tweezers! Think I'm going to pull the stones out and hone a couple up...

You should not let your blade get that dull . When the blade doesn't seem as sharp as it should be , but not really dull , it's time to touch it up . 5 strokes (both sides) works for me . It's easier to keep a sharp razor , sharp . Than it is to make a dull razor sharp , again .

Just because a razor is not shave ready doesn't mean it's not sharp. The eBay ads that crack me up are the ones that say "very sharp".
