Default Just ordered Shavette. Can I use the blade/holder it comes with to shave my face?

I just ordered a Shavette for my first straight razor. Can I use the blade and holder that it comes with to shave? I noticed on classicshaving.com that there are 3 different carrier and blade combos for different purposes but I am wondering if for the time being I can safely use the stock one to shave my face. Thanks!

    Hi BGAndrea,

Yes it'll work fine. The red insert supplied with the Dovo Shavette is for use with disposable double-edge blades. That's what many barbers use to trim sideburns and give full shaves with.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

Sure can! I use the red one as well, easiest way I find to break the blades in half for it is to just leave them in the wrapper and simply bend it in half with no worries of cutting yourself. I have the green holder as well but have never used it.. Best of luck to you and remember low angle and no pressure they are very sharp!

    Gents,

I just ordered a Shavette for my first straight razor. Can I use the blade and holder that it comes with to shave? I first started shaving with the Shavette, and the one thing that i noticed about it that was far different from standard straights is that i typically used a much lower angle than i do now. I'm not sure if this was just poor technique, but i found with the size of the razor, and the size of the blade (I happened to use the Black with half of the Dovo extra long double edges), that the lower angle benefitted my skin and hair, and netted me a fantastic shave. I am in love with my Sheffield now, and my Dovo Ebony Spike is a close contender, however for travel, i've found that it can just be a bit easier to pack the Shavette instead of the razor roll and strop.

Just a thought for you, try different angles if the conventional 30 degrees doesn't work out for you, I even found myself keeping the spine of the Shavette against my skin for the against the grain passes on my neck. Those blades really are a nice sharp blade, and 2-3 shave old blade for me is comparable to a straights sharpness and comfort.

    Best of Luck,

    -Jax
