Now my grandson who is 3 years old is a different subject. He holds the ends/handles of a jump rope, acts like he is stropping a razor then puts one to his face like he is shaving, just like he sees papaw do. I have future plans for him and three extremely scarce John Williams Damascus Sheffield razors I have already set aside for him. Thumps up to you for carrying on a tradition that has been all but forgotten.
Let me add my congrats as well. And congrats as well on introducing your grandson to the almost, but not quite lost, world of straight razor shaving.

My congratulations to you as well!

I too am rounding the bend....my year is up in Feb. Thanks SRP people for the encouragement and advice. Thanks vendors for willingly accepting my credit card again, and again, and again...

I love SR shaving and do it 6 times a week. I love the routine and the introduction to soaps, scents, stones, and the things that go with shaving. So, I'll have less money but die a richer man (many years from now, I hope).

Best to all, and happy shave year once again!!

Yep, me too.. about a year now. Its been a learning year and I am sure I will never go back to disposables. Shaving went from a chore to an anticipated exciting activity. Thanks to all the ppl who have helped with their advice and encouragement. Its great to see something like this come back, for all the right reasons... preservation of an almost lost art, skill aquisition, appreciation of workmanship of handmade precision products, environmentally friendly (most of my blades are much older than me, with some over 100 yrs olds), and just plain fun.

    Default Great fun

    Hi Gents,
I have been staright shaving for just over a year. With many cuts and lots of razor burn under my belt I now get excellent results on a daily basis, my skin is also in great condition compared to when I used an electric razor.

I have five straights and some great soaps and aftershaves. Yes, it has been a little expensive and it can become all consuming, but like others have said, we are keeping a dieing tradition well and truly alive for many years to come.

I have come to the conclusion that its not just the sharpness of the blade that counts, if the lather, prep and technique are wrong then thats half your battle.

    Regards
    London
