I clicked on a barber shop shave at the waldorf hotel on YOU TUBE by mistake and a light bulb went off in my head. I called my 75 year old uncle in PA. and asked him if he had any of grandpaps straight razors because he was a barber from 1929-1980,and replied yes i do.My uncle brought one up and i told him i was going to keep grandpaps tradition alive,my uncle said, your FRIGGIN CRAZY!! let the RAD begin.

Thanked: 31i used to go to a barber shop and get a shave every other friday when i get a haircut....then i got sent to korea...not allowed to go to barbershops for whatever reason and on base i would sit down in the chair and then they start cleaning my hands with a rag asking if i wanted a manicure. right then i was like WTH i want a haircut not a maniure so against my better judgement i let them cut my hair... they couldnt even get a high and tight right so then it was time to buy me some clippers and and start searching for some straight razors and equipment and learn how to just do it myself...no sense in paying 8-10$ for a jacked up haircut i can cut it all off myself for free(until i get to germany and find a real barber again) and learn to give myself a good shave every day!! sorry about the long rant but thats how it all happened and how i eneded up here..OH YEAH ONLY 6 MONTHS LEFT!!!!

Well, I use to shave with a Schick quattro. The whole existance of this safety razor is about taking your money. It's a huge waste of money and blades! Also, the blades gumming up was pain, smacking the razor on the sink!
With a SR, I don't have to worry about conserving blades and having to remember buying replacement blades. Now, I enjoy my shave. Since I picked up a SR 1 year ago, I have not looked back. I Love the art of a SR!

When i was little kid i remember the old timers of the family shaving with straight razors. I've always been interested in playing with simple things that work: hand tools, knives etc. Some years ago i just got an idea about trying to get my late grand fathers straight razor sharp and test it. It wasn't so easy at first, but little by little i got it better. Then one day i just realized that straight razor is another tool that works much better that any electronic buzz****s.
I thought that i am the only nuthead in the world as it took fome years before i found the SRP.
When at work (and days or weeks away from home) i use DE.'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

The truth is I needed a reason to buy a really hard Japanese natural stone. I wanted to spend more time sharpening things.

Thanked: 0Cartridges are a ridiculous price and sharpening blades is fascinating. Also it's a nice turn around that you can learn traditional skills from the internet.

I bought a spyderco sharpmaker for touching up my knives. On the video, they showed how to use it for honing a straight razor (I don't use it for that). After watching that and seeing a straight razor on there, curiosity kicked in and I started searching online. to see how much it was going to cost me. It was all down hill from there.
