    Default 1st shave was great!

Well I got my dovo best quality set from SRD and shaved with a straight for the first time. I only had a small nick on my neck but I think it went relativly well, I watched lots of videos in the wiki section first! I had to use regular shaving cream becuase my brush hasent arrived yet. The only thing I noticed was the shave wasent as close with my regular razor, I guess that will come with time getting a really close shave. I did make two passes one with the grain then one against the grain. I think the best thing about the whole deal is that it made morning go great!

thanks for all the great support on this forum!

Congrats on the first shave. Sounds like you were quite successful. The BBS will come with time. It is all about learning technique!

    Congrats!

    Default 1st Shave Was Great

    Hello, Cole.

Congratulation on your first straight razor shave. You're doing it right: slowly and with care. Good for you. Remember that it gets better with every new shave. Stay with it.

Welcome to SRP. Please check the Wiki and all the other informational shelves at SRP. There are all kinds of resources available to you, plus plenty helping hands.

    Regards,

    Obie

Congrats on your first shave Cole. Give the closeness a little time it will come. Your touch and angles will improve and your shaves will get better.

Ya I kinda had a hard time with the mirror but it dident take long to figure out where my hands needed to be. I tell you what the sound of the razor is awesome. I have to shave every day "military" so this makes this chore a little more enjoyable. Im not a expert on what a sharp blade should feel like but man Lynn is awesome cause my razor is sharp!

sburton1- I took my first straight shave this week with my new DOVO ebony in 5/8. My first was AWESOME. No nicks and no burn. Congrats on your initial success. From what I can tell, we are kind of exceptions to the rule, because most seem to have difficulty and lots of minor blood loss. Again...congrats.

sburton1 and stagger - Congrats on your successful first shaves!

I think a lot of it has to do with being prepared. Nicks will happen and it takes a while to learn how to get close with a straight. But doing lots of research before you give it a go makes you much more likely to be successful! Especially if you've got a good quality pro-honed razor.

If you just take it one step at a time and use the wonderful resources that SRP has compiled into one place, you will have a much smoother start. I'm certainly glad I did a lot of reading first.

sburton1 - It gets even better once you use real shave soap/cream. Lovely stuff. I'm never going back to regular soap or foam in a can! I liked it so much the first time I tried it that I kept using my brush and shaving soap with my regular cartridge razor when I was sending my straight to be honed (I wrecked the edge with poor-quality leather - lesson learned). A lot less irritation and your skin feels grand.

Got it back now and it's even better with a straight.

Nice to hear to about great first shaves, I can hardly wait until I get my razor back from being restored and give it a go.

The only bad thing about my first shave is that I have to wait about a week before I can use it again because I'm having to wait for my strop to arrive thru the mail.
