Thanked: 96Trimming go-tee
I have been using a pair of electric clippers to trim my go-tee, however I cant help but wonder if I could use my str8 to do so, using a comb as a guide. How do you all trim(length not shape) your go-tee's? Has anyone used their straight and a comb, is it even possible? Or should I just get some scissors? Thanks.

I imagine it could be done however I wouldn't. I'd get an electric trimmer which I think would do a better job. You would have to worry about contact with the blade and the comb. It would also depend how close you keep the hair. If its very close to your face it might work but if its full, naa I wouldn't. I have a full mustache and use a trimmer.

I have shaped and trimmed mine with a straight.. It is actually something I do when I'm honing too (a pretty fair hanging hair test I think ) If I see a stray hair after shaving, a quick brush with the straight and we're right back in line.
For whole goatee trimming I use clippers

Thanked: 96Thanks for all the input so far, I was not expecting as many to say take the easy way and get the clippers. None of us would even be here talking if we took the easy route. One of my main reasons to go to str8 shaving was the ability to be self sufficent, relying on electricity doesnt seem to fit into that dream. I think I may give it a go, with a razor I am not depending on for my everyday shaves, of course.
Like you O_S I have tried the scissors in the past and my outcome sounds very similar to yours. I have been itching for more area to shave maybe the goat will just be disappearing.
Del1er1um(hope I got that right), it sounds like you just let your go-tee grow then trim errant whiskers freehand with the str8, is that correct? I usually keep mine trimmed to 3/8" or less. Edit: sorry I didnt see your last statement about the clippers.
Thanks.Last edited by Jasongreat; 02-04-2010 at 12:22 AM.

That is correct, I keep it trimmed freehand, then when it gets really long I'll go with the clippers. That is more an accuracy thing though. When I lived in Brazil, I had a barber that would shape hair with a shavette including beards (he had a guard and used it kind of like a comb). I'd bet if you keep you eye out you can find a straight that has a guard like one of those after a while... I've seen some guys post pictures of them before, so I know they are out there.

Thanked: 96So thats what that style of razor is for. I have seen a few of those offered on ebay, but at the time it didnt sink in to what they would be used for.
Maybe I could get a comb and cut it down so I could hold it at the same time I am holding the razor, a redneck engineered version. On second thought that doesnt sound very safe, I had better go with the proper version. Thanks.
