Thanked: 4942Interesting Test
Hi Guys, for the last couple of days I have been experimenting by
shaving half my face with a Feather straight razor and the other half
with my Maestro ATS 34 razors. It is amazing that both shaves have
virtually an identical feeling regarding closeness. The Feather glides
like a manufactured blade and the Maestro if pretty close. What I have
found interesting is that the Maestro side of the face actually felt a
little softer. In addition, it seems as though the Feather side grew
back faster. This is pretty cool and I may play around with a few
other razors to compare. I can say that as far as a disposable goes, I
am reminded just how nice the Feather is compared to the others. This
may actually be the only disposable made for straight razor shaving
and not for barber trimming and sculpting. I love my Maestro straight
razors......They are simply awesome. I know Joe has done some of this
type of experimentation and we all shave differently and have
different beards. I'd be interested to hear from you guys on this.
Thanks.
Lynn

Thanked: 4942Actually, I think I can get the same results with several other brands of straight razors as well. All in all, the Feather is nice, but the real straight razor rocks. Of the disposables, the Feather, is way worth the money. Lynn

Lynn,
Have you tried switching the side of the face you use the feather/Maestro on?

Heh heh. Yeah, I was just kidding you about the Damascus blade.
The feather looks neat, indeed. I've got one of the disposables that uses 1/2 of the DE blades. Only attempted to shave with it once, and cut myself twice in the process. I hardly ever cut myself with the regular straight, so I've stuck with that. Can't argue with results!

Thanked: 4942Hi Larry. I am using the Pro blades. I believe they have the most heft. The feather system is really cool as just the edge really sticks out of the holder. They really were made for shaving. Lynn

Thanked: 15I get a slightly better shave with the Feather at this point, but I think it's do to my poor stropping and I've just started buying hones so I don't think I can make a good comparison myself yet.
I've heard others say that the Feather shaves closer, but some say the opposite. I'll have to wait until I really know what I'm doing before making a helpful comparison.
Different animals to be sure, but the regular str8's are old-school and there's something to be said for that...
