turkish barber straight razor shave
See youtube video below!
okey, he pre oils, lathers, shaves (with a real straight, not a feather), then I get lost... he lights your face on fire with aftershave to singe the hair?, then he flosses your face to rip out any hair left? Then he uses Alum block (that part I recognize). Has anyone tried any of this???

I kinda like his method for cleaning lather off the blade, but I would cut my palm to pieces...
Edit: Also, I think the heat might be to close the pores via cauterization type thing?
And I know What the floss thing is, give me a sec...

I don't know about the tampon match...... might be a spiritual cleansing type? Floss tweezing is actually common in the Mid East. It is used to shape eyebrows often, and remove the peach fuzz. Stings a little.

The thing with the floss is called Threading... There's a place at my local mall that does it for eyebrows and what not... It hurts less than tweezing or waxing, and it is supposed to "sculpt" the hair...
I learned this from google, not experience

AFAIK the flaming cotton bud has nothing to do with pore closing and is just to remove ear hair and other fine hairs which may have been missed. A bloke I used to know went for a haircut while on holiday in Turkey and had not only his ear hair singed off, but his nose hair too!!
The 'flossing' is a technique called threading. Women also have it done as an eyebrow shaping method . The wife has had it done a few times and really rates it.
Note to self: Must get faster at typing!!!

I've had a couple of shaves in Turkey, with the burning cotton finish, massage and all. The best shaves I've had bar none. That's actually one of the reasons I've taken up straight razor shaving. I want to see if I can shave that close myself, with no irritation. Time will tell.

This is the type of shave that I think can rival the shave I can give myself. Because of the technique involved, I would gladly give it a try.
