Hi, new member here. I've not used a SR yet, but I tried my DE this morning with hot shower, then cold water on my face before lather, lather rub in with fingers, shave with cold water rinsing the blade, and then using just straight cold water for touching up. I shaved my face and head this way and aside from the nearly-frozen-ice water I had this morning, my face felt great! No irritation, no nicks or cuts anywhere. And I've only been DE shaving for about a week now. I've gotta say I think I'm going to be cold shaving from now on.

Cold water is a great skin tonic! :-)

I don't really have to shave today, but I will now. I'm interested to see how a cold water shave works.

Cold water is what I use. I have tried to love warm water, but my face tells me otherwise.

Switched to cold water long time ago, works well for me. But on a previous thread, the old canard, that I firmly believed btw, was finally laid to rest, cold water is not the best prescribed best way to shave, hot water actually does what it claims to do. Having said that, it's a YMMV thing, if you like it and it works, go with it!

I tried it out last night and it went well. I did everything else the same. The last time I used the razor I used last night I thought it might be time to freshen up the blade. I never got to it and shaved with it anyway and it seemed like it went okay. Maybe it was psychological. One of the things I like is not having to use so much hot water. I use water sparingly as I don't like to waste it, but I don't like wasting hot water even more.

Wendell, NC 28 Jan 2014 - five inches of snow and a low of 9*

Waterpipe from the well is frozen, somewhere, underground.
All my crawlspace insulating and heating efforts? Wasted.

Wendell, NC 30 Jan, 2014, morning shave.
A pint of cold water in the sink, cold water lather, cold water prep, a Boker King Cutter just honed/stropped by @gssixgun, two quick passes, a cold water rinse. Smooth as silk - zero redness or irritation (as usual, just a little more so). I suppose skin types vary but, for me, cold water maybe isn't the easiest but it is the best.
