Thread: THE MUCH FEARED NICK

In response to Scott's BBS Poll, I thought I'd ask how everyone's fared on the other side of the spectrum.

For this poll, consider only cuts or "slice" nicks - not those little dots of blood, which is more like really bad irritation. Also, don't include the cuts on your hands from restorations or horsing around on the hones. Just the cuts on your face/neck from shaving.

I decided not to ask how frequently you've nicked yourself, since I figure a lot of folks plateau after a while. This should be a pretty good measurement across the board, for newbies and, uh, oldies alike.

Feel free to tell your horror stories in the thread. If you've got photos, post them and try to gross us out.

I'm somewhere around 10 or 12, but the biggest "bleeder" came yesterday. I got myself good on my upper lip vertically and let it bleed through the touch ups and aftershave ritual. It was a bit fun, and yes, I'm weird.

I voted for "more than a handful, but less than a dozen." When I first started with a straight (round point), I got myself a couple of times before I figured out how to get around my face well. Once I learned how to avoid the slices, I didn't get any for a long time. Not too long ago, however, I purchased a spike point... Now I have a couple of scars... Took me a bit to get used to the point, but I'm finally getting the hang of it.

That is what I was wondering. Over the course of the last 30-35 years of shaving I cannot even begin to count. Since my first str8 shave, just once so far. I am however expecting more!!!

Can't remember the last time unless you count the nick to my thumb. LOL

I've probably only got myself once or twice whilst shaving, I've been quite lucky! But I've got my hands a couple of times pretty good when cleaning razors.

I've only cut myself about 6 or 7 times and I 'm surprised it hasn't been more especially when I started using square points.I did,however cut my thumb trying to adjust my grip when my hand got wet.Man,that hurt for days!

Yeah, I'm talking TOTAL NICKS on your face/neck with a STRAIGHT RAZOR since you started shaving.

My experience with a Mach 3 has been, if you get nicked they come in triplets...

I voted less than a dozen. Probably less than half a dozen actually. I've nicked my self more and worse with a DE in my life than with a straight.

Mine is between just once or twice and more than a handful over the last year, probably about 3 or 4 times so I voted more than a handful. Got a small one the other day that was a bit more than a weeper but not quite a slice. Hadn't shaved with a str8 in awhile and while going ATG under the sideburn the skin bunched up a bit and the toe dug in.

The stupidest one I did was when I was doing my cheeks and was trying to get the skin good and tight. I moved my jaw to tighten the skin a bit more and had the razor touching my face when I moved. It was very slight but I learned not to do that again!
