Thread: THE MUCH FEARED NICK

I voted less than a dozen. Probably less than half a dozen actually. I've nicked my self more and worse with a DE in my life than with a straight.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 16Mine is between just once or twice and more than a handful over the last year, probably about 3 or 4 times so I voted more than a handful. Got a small one the other day that was a bit more than a weeper but not quite a slice. Hadn't shaved with a str8 in awhile and while going ATG under the sideburn the skin bunched up a bit and the toe dug in.
The stupidest one I did was when I was doing my cheeks and was trying to get the skin good and tight. I moved my jaw to tighten the skin a bit more and had the razor touching my face when I moved. It was very slight but I learned not to do that again!

Starting from my first shave and climbing the learning curve, I'd say several. Possibly around a dozen but probably just under. I'm still a relative newb (3 months in), but the cuts now are rare and they usually happen when I'm still a bit groggy in the morning.

Reference the above, (groggy in the morning), I'll agree and add in a hurry in the morning. For me, usually if I suffer, it is at the beginning of a stroke, (application of the razor to the face or after a stroke where you stop and leave the razor in place for a second...thats seems to be the danger points for me, never mid-stroke
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Thanked: 14In my 12 years with a SR, I'm quite sure it's way in the doubles somewhere. I usually get my ears as I'm doing my sideburns.

Many times, but only seriously once. I still have the scar. I was using a disposable straight had actually finished the shave without any nicks, and for some reason kept it near my cheek and then did something and the next thing I know there was a big slice. The blade was so sharp and cut so clean I could have probably just put the sides back together but I wanted to test my styptic pencil so I started rubbing it all over the cut and it made it worse, hence the scar.
As for smaller cuts, frequently. Twice today in fact. The reason is I often start thinking about other things, and then wake up in the middle of the shave with a nick.
If I pay attention I don't cut myself, so it's really just a matter of me being careless.I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Thanked: 267Man! I must be a POS! I have been this for over 2 years and have really had more than 30. Some of these guys have almost nothing. I count nicks that don't bleed also so that is not all that bad.....dang!

Whups - I clicked "never" because I only glanced at the title and read it as "The Much Feared NECK." And I've never nicked myself there.
So I'm changing it to the "under a dozen" choice. And never seriously. No gushers. Early on I got a few when I was working out the angles and how to place the blade. Just the kind that close up with cold water.

probably between a handfull and a dozen
the worst one a 1.5" slice at the start of the left sideburn
(buffing with less sharp razor)
it still was clean enough that when i pushed the flap back it stayed there
No stryptic needed as it stopped bleeding pretty quick
