Thanked: 2neck-shaving
Hi guys!
I'm new here and would say "hi" to all here. My English isn't bad nor good. So I do my best.
I know, that's not a good start, but it's the only problem that I have with shaving at the moment and I haven't found a solution for it by now.
Here is the fact:
I shave about five months with a DE razor. Everything is fine. Now I started shaving with a straight razor. On the top of the face (cheeks, around the lips,...) I can shave myself easily. But when I shave my neck against the grain there is a problem. When I strech the skin and hold my head a little bit up then appears a deepening between the trachea and the artery of the neck where the blade cannot reach the hair because of the length of the blade (it's a normal 5/8 rozor blade). How I can shave between this deepening? I tried to hold the razor with the right hand and then with the left hand. But no way. With the DE razor is no problem because the blade isn't long. Can you guys help me? I hope so.
Regards
D3Straight

Welcome to the forum -
I am relatively new to straight shaving as well, but what I found helpful is turn your head more to the side, and spread your fingers when you stretch to create a more flat surface. You also do not need to use the entire blade on your neck at once, I only really use the last inch or so in the tight, hard to get to, areas.
I am sure you'll get a lot of good advice on this forum from the veterans, but this works for me.

Welcome to SRP & to straights. I have a similar problem. What works for me are two things...
- I tilt my head so my ear on the side I'm not shaving moves toward the back of my shoulder and drop my shoulder on the side I am shaving down. This is a pretty typical move.
- I also put my forefinger just to the side of my Adam's Apple (on the side I'm shaving). Then I slide my finger to the opposite side of my Adam's Apple. This flattens out that cravas quite well.
I hope this helps.

Thanked: 190This was a challenge for me as well. I started by folding the scale all the way back until it was just behind the blade. This allowed me to get a better approach to shave this area more closely.
Tilting the head and stretching skin also exposed the area more the blade. I also tilt the head and stetch the same way when I do the South Scything motion with the straight razor.
Sometimes, I have a 3rd mini pass that touches up around the adams apple where some small patches were missed and that required a little different skin stretching to get the hairs up to be shaved.
I hope this helps.

When you're trying to get into those smaller hard to reach areas using selected areas of the razor is how you have to do it. Some prefer the toe end and some prefer the heel end depending on how you approach the area in question. You have to figure out in your particular case which part of the razor fits the area.
