Thanked: 5Scything motion
Hey Guys,
I naturally moved to scything a few weeks ago as I have stubble that is very stubborn in certain areas ( jaw-line, chin e.t.c. ) however it has taught me to be extremely careful whilst doing it around the chin area as I inflicted myself with a cut that the three musketeers would have been proud of! All healed now; but just a word of warning to all.
Kind Regards, Andy.

It sounds like you attempted a scything motion over a bony protrusion. That was your mistake. Never attempt it over any facial protrusion.

Thanked: 5Spot on!
You are correct - right over the chin bone - I won't be doing that again.
My angle was off too and didn't sweep across and down like I normally do.
Too much pressure was used also having thought about it.
Apart from this cut it's the best shave so far with my straight ( not a single whisker in sight and two days before I had to shave again.
Thanks for the pointer - I will not do it again.
Kind Regards, Andy.

I've found that scything works best on my cheeks and neck. In some respects, at least for me, it was something that I have done to a certain extent unconsciously from the first day that I began str8 razor shaving.
You do need to be extremely careful while performing this motion with the razor, though."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

For me, after I had become comfortable using the razor I realised I needed to learn the advanced strokes in order to improve the shave. It seemed difficult to do just a bit here or there so I used only one particular technique for the whole shave - and did that for about 4 shaves and when I felt like I could easily shave my whole face with one kind of stroke I moved on to the next one.
After you've learned them all you'll find yourself naturally using the best one because you learn different styles get better results in different places more easily than others.
Remember, relaxed hand, good prep, and let the razor do the cutting.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!
