    Default I have done it!

    Hey all,

Just shaved a moment ago and I just HAD to tell someone how great it was (I figured you guys might understand why Im so stoked about it). I spent a good hour honing today on my norton 4/8k. Razor was my Grandads old German-made Hughel 5/8ths Hollow.

I was able to achieve my first BBS shave. It took about 15minutes to complete top to bottom, and 2 1/2 passes. I do an extra pass under my jawline because its unreasonably hard to do smoothly without chopping myself.

Here is the whole reason why I am making this post though-
I discovered what I was doing wrong! My mistake was using a steeper angle on my ATG pass than I should have been using. This made it uncomfortable and didn't give a very good or close shave. I had originally thought that it was due to my razor being too dull, but after making some adjustments I find it very nice. For me, it worked really well when I flattened the razor right out till the spine was on the skin as well. Not only did this take the hair off right at the skin very easily, but it also was convenient that having the spine all the way down eliminates difficulties with unintentional angle changing, since you just keep the razor flat and therefore at a constant angle.

This technique may not work for everybody, or for all razors, but it worked magic for me this evening and I thought that maybe it might help some people out if they were having the same problem as I was.

    Smooth shaving gentlemen,

    John

That's exactly what works for me. What looks like the proper angle usually isn't. For me, 30 degrees actually looks like 45 when the razor is on the face, so now I just shoot for a 45 and I'm set. The fun thing is that you will recognize where the tougher areas are and you can adjust the razor angle while in motion. This really is learning how to drive a Lamborghini instead of being a passenger in a Hyundai.

That's the thing with using a straight. You are constantly adjusting the angle to give the best result as you move over your face.

The 30 degree angle is really a convenient starting point. Many use a shallower angle and some a steeper though too steep and the shave can become harsh and be more likely to do some damage to you.
