Default face full of pimples after 6 months with the same kit

    hello chaps!

was feeling really pleased with myself of late, been using my straight for about 6 months now, completely retired my mach 3 turbo injection thingy and was going great guns, bit of work to do on my honing mind but making progress.

had a shave recently and broke out in red blotches and tiny white spots ALL OVER my face, was horrible!! nothing in my routine or kit has changed so i'm confused, guessing my blade needs cleaning? if so what should i use?

thanks in advance, had to dist off my crappy mach 3 again as i don't want to go near my face with my straight if i'm risking another spotty episode like that so desperate to get to the bottom of this one.

It might be razor burn? Have you honed the blade since you starteD?

I agree with the earlier post...If you've been using your razor for six months it may very well need to be honed.

IMO if you want to disinfect the blade, wipe both sides with some rubbing alcohol, then rinse the blade under hot water and dry it thoroughly with a clean towel.

    Mr Monkey,

Chances are a contaminated razor is not the source of your problem. Dry steel at room temperature is not conducive to bacterial growth. Your brush on the other hand...

However, let's not start chasing zebras.

Do you have a history of acne? Does this look like acne you've had in the past? Acne is unlikely to be caused by shaving but can be irritated by it.

Odds are you are experiencing an infection (acne is one of many types) or a an allergic reaction. In either case you should not be seeking advice from us but your doctor.

Gonna say it again: See your doctor.

    I remain &c

Do you shave daily? When I shave daily or every other day I have no problem but if I let my stubble go for more than three days I get red splotches with tiny white spots.

    thanks guys.

i've honed it during the time i've had it yes.

no real acne trouble, not for many years anyway ;-)

i sometimes shave daily, other times not for a few days, depends how i feel and what i'm doing workwise but NEVER had a problem before.

i've used my brush and soap a few times since with a mach 3 and no problem there either so has to be something else.

i had a 2 pass shave that day, again i do this from time to time but never a problem.

maybe i'll try some alcohol to cleanse the blade and find the courage to have another go.

I get this problem from time to time. I have noticed that in my case it is often when my general health is suffering due to worry and long working hours. I am fairly certain that it is not strictly shaving related.

What kind of soap are you using? This seems like an allergic reaction to me.

dr harris soap, but been using it for months now, like i say i've changed nothing about my routine since i started which is why i assumed something is dirty and causing small infections/spots.
