like an X-pattern on your face. I've done it a few times, but hadsn't made much difference to me. I agree... make sure the razor is as sharp as it can be, rule that out first.

Once you get the hang of a cutting angle it actually makes the shave more comfortable and less dangerous. The blade tends to catch on the wiskers less. It cuts through them easier and that means less irritation and smoother results at fewer passes. As with all things, take care and use moderation and you should experience no problems.

Diagonal cutting stroke works great to me. Merkur tried to mimic that movement with their Slant bar razor (DE). be sure to read the barber manual, and you know what you'r doing, and try that one...

Thanks for the replies folks. I suspect that the razor is just not sharp enough.

    Lynn,

I already do that and I don't have any trouble across the grain. With and across seem ok, but like I said above, I think the issue is sharpness. If I use my Feather, I don't have any issues going against after a pass with and/or across the grain, so it must be sharpness.

Time to get some paste or start honing

I already do that, but that doesn't seem to help much. It's time to sharpen the razor....
