    Default cant get my neck.

with a two pass shave o can get my cheeks my lips my jaw line and my chin BBs.

But i just can`t get the angles right for my neck.
My beard on my neck grows from my ear to my mouth.

I`ve tried dteching the skin from my cheeks or from diffrent parts of my neck, tried holding the razor in diffrent ways, and generally i just end up either bloody or hairy.

any hints and tips would be great.

The neck usually is the problem area for most people, just because the growth tends to be all over the place there.

What I do is I do a north to south pass whilst stretching the skin upwards on my cheek to pull the neck skin up. This gets a lot of it, but not all. This is basically the classic WTG pass.

Then I do a horizontal pass going starting at my chin and going back towards my ears on both sides. This is what you could describe as an XTG pass going east - west.

This just leaves a little strip running down my neck right under my chin which I get with a north to south pass.

Then I feel for any little patches that are left.

If I find something then I work out which way the hair is growing, stretch the skin the other way to make the hair stand up and do an XTG pass to pick them off.

If I cant do a totally XTG pass without slashing myself, I'll make the pass as XTG as I can without endangering my life..!

Try mapping your beard growth and see which way the hairs grow. Then stretch the skin the other way to make them stand up before your pass. This is really the easiest way to get the vast bulk of the hair.

The neck is a tricky spot, and my technique might not work for you, so keep at it and you will get there..!

    Good luck!

    Default Can't Get My Neck

    Hello, BigIan:

Stuart gives sound advice on stretching for the neck.

Most people have had trouble with the neck. I still do, and still keep working at defeating the rebellious stubble on my neck.

    Experiment and improvise.

    Regards,
    Obie

Stubear; When you perform above pass is your razor perpendicular to the neck? I do not seem to have the room to do this and have to angle the blade to about 45 degrees and still not be able to make that straight passfrom chin to ear or vise versa. Any possible pics of your pass? Thanks

Gee, I don't know what to tell you beyond keep on trying. Of course a shave ready razor is a prerequisite but assuming you have that it is just a matter of trial and error. Blade angle, stretching and angle of attack are all critical and if the way you're approaching it doesn't work one or more of the components needs tweaking IMO.

I had to figure out what worked for my particular beard as we all do. Make sure to 'map' your whiskers by running your fingertips over the stubble to learn in which direction your whiskers are growing on your neck. That may help with your angle of attack.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Its basically like the pictures attached. Thats how it looks in the mirror to me when I shave. Its a wierd pass and I do it after I've dont the usual north -> south pass down each side of my neck.

This basically picks up 99% of the remaining stubble before I go and have a feel for any remaining stragglers...!

    Hope this helps!

I have a problem neck also. Very contoured, bad growth direction and the only way to get BBS is with certain razors that seem to have a heavy smile to them or unless I go e-w which is not possible. It makes no difference whether I stretch or use all kinds of angles and strokes. I really don't worry about it anymore. I still get a great shave.

You forgot to mention how all this is made easier when you use cold water!!
Seriously, I. Have found cold water makes shaving tough spots much easier
