Thanked: 11skin not used 2 razor anymore :(
i haven't shaved with my SR in about 2 weeks. i had to get my razor's scales replaced and honed which means i had to use the Gillette mach 3 razor for that duration. as soon as i got the razor back i did my usual shave but this time it irritated my skins like if it was the 1st time i ever shaved with a razor. i remember the first week i ever shaved with a SR was pretty rough on my skin since i wasn't used to it.
within this 2 weeks i didn't shave with a SR, did my skin go back to how it was before i started shaving with a SR? now its irritating my skin and theres some bleeding here and there. il admit my 2nd shave this morning wasn't as irritating as the time before so im assuming my starting 2 get used to it again. has this ever happened to anyone where you don't use a SR for a specific time but then once you start shaving again with a SR its irritating?

That doesn't seem like enough time for your skin to totally relapse. How long were you shaving with a straight before you took a break?
There's probably another factor at work--maybe you're just a little rusty? Was the Mach III making your skin sore at all? Could be a little latent irritation from the cartridge razor.
Good luck,
Josh

I think it's a better chance that your razor is significantly sharper now than before and you're still using the same pressure. Try going lighter with the pressure till the edge chills out a bit.

No problem at all. It's amazing just how sharp these masters can get them. I mean to where hair literally falls clean away rather than being pushed aside. I still have a hard time grasping it. Cheers

I agree that the extra sharpness is the probable cause of your problem.
One thing to do is to focus on the WTG pass. After your WTG pass, rub your hand over the skin in the same WTG direction you shaved. Does your face feel perfectly smooth with no hint of stubble? If not, relather and repeat the WTG.
Another technique is not to advance 90 degrees with your passes. While you are feeling your way thru this problem, shave WTG, then WTG plus (say) 45 degrees, then another 45 degrees, etc, etc, till you get to ATG.
You don't have to shave this way all the time. But, using this gradual advancement in degree of shaving pass will help you ease back into shaving with straights.

How does the sharpness feel compared to what you had before? How does the edge feel on your skin? Is it pulling at all?
It's possible that the edge is sharper but harsher than what you had before. Do you know what it was finished on?

If you have a source of magnification take a look at the edge. See if there are any micro chips. Unlikely but possible.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

the edge does feel smoother. it doesnt pull hairs. i actually have my first clean shave with no blood at all 2 days ago. i am getting used to it and learning how to use less pressure since the razor is much much sharper than before. im about to shave with it again later today. hopefully i get the same results as before.
