Thanked: 0On Nicks . . .
Occasionaly during a shave I have a bad habit of adjusting my grip or turning the blade while it is very close to my face! I usually catch the error wide-eyed and think to myself "Kee-rist!" if that had touched me it would have been a helluva alot more than a nick to deal with! So I try to make a concious effort to stretch out my arm a little when manouvering the blade.
One of the other caveats I found is that when using only the outer or inner portion of the edge, always observe where the unused part of the edge is . . .

The first shave I had I discovered my depth perception was no where near the level it should be...LOL. Stuck the razor right into my cheek.
My safety tip would be to remember the razor doesn't know the difference between you fingers, face, or other extremeties....it cuts them all up without bias....

Yeah, the best advice on that is simply to always know where the edge is and what it's doing. That's your focus and if it doesn't waver you shouldn't have any problems.

When I first started (about two weeks into it) I got a little cocky because I had “gotten the hang of it.” I proceeded to blaze through my shave losing track of my blade and literally touched the tip of my nose very slightly. That slight touch turned into a line on the tip of my nose that was not bad but noticeable for the rest of the week.
The good thing is that everyone at work knew of my newfound str8 shaving, and after some ball-busting it was left alone. Needless to say, I take my time and have learned to control the blade better. Actually I have started shaving with both hands now with some success. I guess it just gets better and better. I love it.
