Skinny little face
Hey fellas. Looking for some other videos or insight into how you other skinny face guys do it. I'm not a big fella. To get an idea I am 5 foot 4 inches tall and about 130lbs. I have a skinny small face. Most of the videos I've found have gentlemen in them that have thick necks, full cheeks, and a jawline that disappears into the neck. Just wondering how some of you other small cats are whipping the blade around your face.

The toughest part for me has always been where the jawline meets the neck. That requires an adjustment of the angle that comes with practice. Where the jawbone juts out, you actually have to hold the razor so the edge of the blade is turned up a bit. Yes, it takes practice, but by trial and error, you'll get there.

It's all about the stretching, with a little cheek puffing thrown in. I found that the standard face 'map' didn't work for me. I also didn't see my face type in any of the videos. We are all individuals ,with unique features,so you will have to do a little experimentation. I laugh when I actually think about how I shave, compared to the videos I have watched. It may be unorthodox, but I have found what works for MY face.
Good luck!!
p.s. I pull up,bringing my 'jawline' up onto my cheek, and shave it.......then I pull down and do my neck.Last edited by HarleyFXST; 05-02-2010 at 02:50 PM.

probably our problem is the same, I'm pretty much small around 165cm, quite a tiny face, etc. My problem is where jaw meet the neck since my hair pretty much go diagonally, check wiki, there's video done buy one of SRP member here doing that part, he's pretty much big fella, but the idea is the same, however since I have pretty much small face, long blade like normal 3" blade didn't work for my neck and jaw area, recently I acquire Old English MAB razor which is just 5.5cm in length, the width is 4/8..that blade really help me cutting hair in that area, same techniques, shorter blade as compensation of tiny face

Thanked: 33Hi,
This "skinny face " syndrome applies to a whole bunch of people including me -at 6ft 2ins!!
I watched those videos, worried and puzzled over this for quite a while but stumbled on the solution when i started doing ATG passes.
When you get to doing this pass the razor is brought up from the bottom of the neck until it reaches the edge of the jawline. With alittle acquired skill you can bring the razor up to the edge of the jawline and then progress up and over the jawline turning the spine to keep the angle at 5 to 10 degrees-(not easily learnt and am still learning as i write this.)
Indeed an advantage with the ATG pass and a skinny face (if your face is anything like mine) is that at the side of the neck below the ear the razor can be brought up to the jawline and passes easily onto the cheek and up to the sideburns almost in one movement.(keeping the angle at around 5 degrees.)
DON'T ATTEMPT THIS STROKE IF YOU DO NOT FEEL CONFIDENT!
If you do attempt it remember-all ATG passes should be done using as little pressure as possible.
Hope this helps
Regards
Noggs

Skinny face too
jpm,
Thanks for starting this thread. I'm only 7 shaves "in" so only feel qualified to pass along information from those more experienced than I that have helped me thus far. If it's any encouragement to you, because of the fantastic help and advice of the guys on this website I'm already getting great results. I've thrown in the towel on Mr. Fusion - he'll only touch my face again under the direst of circumstances.
I'm 6'1" and have I too have a thin face. To complicate things, I have American Indian heritage (my paternal great great grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee), giving me high cheekbones and sparse odd facial hair. I have a Door Knocker - mustache, soul patch, goatee, and hair joining mustache & goat. However, I couldn't grow a full beard if you paid me $$. My biggest challenge has been the patch of hair in the middle of my cheek hiding just below my cheekbone. Obie reminded (as others have mentioned) that puffing out your cheeks a little can help. Also, I was obsessively repeating my strokes over this area trying to get every last hair. That is, until I read mainaman's (Stefan) response in another thread (Straight Razor Place Forums » Welcome Center » Beginners » 2nd shave...questions) where he said "...after the pass with the razor run a finger in the same direction as the razor and if you feel just the smooth skin, then you move on, no need to come back untill your next pass (XTG or ATG) even if it seems like there is whiskers there." This made a HUGE difference in my shaves!
Happy shaving,
Greg

I too have a skinny face with hard angles. Things that helped me, smaller blade 4/8 did wonders!! Use every inch of that blade, from the toe to heel. Some places the toe fits in nicely and same goes with the heel.
Also streaching the face..not just the skin......I sweat it looks like I trying to contort my face in the ugliest possible way. But between using my fingeters/hand to streach the skin, contorting my face, and the full use of a smaller blade.

I am 6'3" and weigh about 145 so I suppose you could classify me in this category. Not the best video as I was also testing out the video recording capabilities of my camera at the time, but you can see a bit how I move my skin around to get different areas.

My younger brother is also similar in build, though a tad smaller. This was his first shave so he was not quite there with how to get his angles and such, but it could help too.
