Thanked: 1I think this is progress
had my latest shave this morning, about SR shave number 5 or 6. Used another razor that I picked up and honed yesterday. After shave today i noticed that I didnt have any irritation or razor burn like I had been getting but i did get a lot more nicks than I had previously. I am hoping this is a sign that I am getting my razors sharper! Not sure, but I am trying to look on the bright side.

Yes, that could certainly be progress. The best way to tell, of course, would be to start with an already shave-ready razor that someone who has a lot of experience has honed for you.
Failing that (since you seem to have forged out on your own), you want to avoid using a razor if you feel the hairs pulling at al when you shave. They should come right off without much tug at all on the face. You can also try the various thumbnail and hanging hair tests that are outlined in the barber's manuals available on this site.
Sounds like you're getting there, though. Good luck!

The more you shave the more skill and confidence you will aquire and your shaves will quickly improve.

Everything takes time and practice. In the mean time your face will get accustomed to being shaved closer than ever and will get use to it.
