    Default First shave success!

Well, I have to say a big thanks to everyone here! My first shave was quite successful.
I was given a Dovo razor and set about finding a hone and strop. Australia seems to have very little in the way of Str8 shaving implements, but I found a japanese whetstone (Kasumi 3k/8k) and a never used mid 1900's strop off ebay.
So following everyones advice I sharpened and tested and sharpened some more until I was happy with the HHT.
And last night I tested it out for the first time. After watching the vid on shaving and reading up it went surprisingly well. I managed everything except my chin and mo. But no nicks, a little razor burn and a successful close shave.
I've gone back and sharpened a bit more as the razor pulled slightly, and it does feel even better now when I do the HHT. So I just need some growth to shave
One problem I found though, was that the weather in perth is very dry, so your lather dries out very quickly and I think I wasn't reapplying often enough to keep it sufficiently wet. Which may have added to my razor burn. But hey, no damage to the skin, no bumps post shave and all is good.
    Now it's just more practice!

Sounds like you did well, the razor probably needs a little more sharpening. In the beginning you may want to lather up just one side and add water with your brush often. Have fun . . .

Good going. As you said, "all I need is practice".
    Well, practice makes perfect.

Keep it up and you will go far.....

Sounds like you did very well. Yu might want to try shaving creams like Taylors of Old Bond Street. Might work better for you.

Thumbs up Way To Go Brooksy

You'll only get better at keeping that razor in trim and the shaves should just keep getting better.
    Here's to it.
