Thanked: 3A strange thing happened to me...
This evening, as I couldn't sleep, I decided to get up and shave.
It never happened before. So this is a first.
But the strange thing is that while I was shaving, it was like if someone else was holding the straight and shaving me. I was holding it in a completely different way as what I was using before. And the shaving was very easy, relaxing, and I was even shaving Xtg or sideway in some places, in a way I never used before. I was feeling like an expert.
It was a wonderful feeling, and my skin was fresh after that, amd not iritated at all. I finished with a quality AS and went back to bed (with my portable...) and posted this message.
It was like if I was shaving for myself for the first time in my life, not for a special occasion or to go out somewhere.
Oh... and no, I didn't drink ot had anything before going to bed...
Now, that's a good reason to use a straight...

sounds like muscle memory and a mind that was left alone without being forced to over think the process may have helped you out.

If it wasn't for straight razors I'd still be gripping about my monthly shave... Now I can't wait for the beard to grow enough to cut
My wife likes it when I shave before I go to bed

i had a brief mental image of "ghost".. with whoopi taking over your body and molding the most perfect scene..
i've noticed in several things in my life.. i always do best when i just let go and do what comes naturally.. you stopped over thinking and just flowed.. try and keep that going.. it could overflow into the rest of your life.

Thanked: 3We never really reach perfection, we only get closer we every steps we take...
And I am still far from perfection
Btw, this morning, I liked the feeling of having a close shave. It was like starting the day more relaxed. And my skin looks better and more relaxed too...
Yesterday, when I shaved, I realized that before, I was holding the straight wrong. I thought I was ok but I misunderstood what I read on the forum and in the wiki about the way to hold it.

I think the way to understand this is to take the antithesis of what happened.
Try working hard mentally all day long. then going home and doing your yard workd. Then in an mentally and physically exhausted state, try to straight razor shave. I think you will find the results much less than acceptable, even if you are an experienced shaver.
This takes a high degree of concentration, and I think that the rest you got, and knowing that you did not have to go straight to work combined to give you a mental state that you were able to concentrate in, and yet have freedom to use techniques you knew about, but were standing in the way of.
JMHO.
