My first straight razor shave...finally!!!!! THANKS LYNN!!!!!!
Well my fiance handed me two razors received from Lynn earlier this week when I got home today! I was VERY excited to say the least!!!
Ok so down to the good stuff.
I used the Cattaraugus razor that Lynn had given me for my first shave, and I was very impressed!
I was able to shave with, cross, and against the grain with no issues whatsoever. I had a much easier time shaving cross and against the grain than I did when I shaved with the grain, for some reason that was a hard movement for me...but I'll get used to it.
I definitely got a closer shave than with my DE, and I really didnt think it was possible....my face is so smooth it feels like its been waxed! I had a few areas that were harder to get to than with the DE, especially trying to go cross grain on my upper neck under my jaw, but I'll figure that one out eventually. I had no issues going against the grain on the upper lip, just used short careful movements.
Te only reoccurring issue I had was that I had a tendency to want to hold the blade at to much of an angle which caused the blade to pull on hairs more than cut them. I find that if the blade is almost flat against my face, maybe 15-20 degrees, I get a perfect shave. I know everyone has been saying 30 degrees for straights, so I'll have to look into that.
Im not sure if I am forgetting anything...I dont think so...all I know is that last time I felt like this much of a man was when I lost my virginity lol....

JL,
It's about time you got to use a damn straight! You've been waiting, what, FOREVER? Not that I'm Mr. Experience (only 3 shaves in, so far), but you're closing in on the "M" Club already!
Looks like you had an awesome first shave. I felt like a monkey would've looked more graceful than I did (and still do) with the thing.
Congrats!
