Thanked: 0The whole head
I stopped by an Art of Shaving store for the first time last weekend. I had not idea that straight razors were still made and in use. The sales gal there tells me that it is the best shave possible. Since then I have been interested in trying it out and have tried to find info on techniques to shave the whole scalp. For seven years I have shaved my entire head with a Mach III and want to know from anyone here what their experience has been in using a straight razor to go completely smooth. Is it doable or is it, as my wife believes, a bad idea? Maybe Mach the top and straight the face?
Thanks
RC

I cant speak about straights, but I know there are specific scalp shaving razors that use disposable blades and are supposed to be excellent http://www.emsplace.com/bcprod/headblade.asp. I used to shave my head for years. I have pretty big arms and cant even reach around to many parts of my heard in an angle that a straight would work with, but even if I could I would be very scared. I know how frustrating the disposables are because its really hard to get a REALLY close shave with them.
Another option would be to try a DE razor, I would consider shaving my head with that. Perhaps someone else can give you some advice on their experience with straight shaving of the scalp.

I do
Works wonderfully, I can go about three days without having to shave again. Of course, I've been shaving my head for quite a while and it's easier to shave my head than my face believe it not....
Tips, go slow and practice with two mirrors to get the directions straight BEFORE you put the blade to your head.
GOOD LUCK!!

Shaving your whole head with a straight is about like trying to shave your CAB with one. I'm sure somebody can do it, but it wouldn't be me. I'm sure somebody'll try it, but it won't be me.

Thanked: 1I've been shaving my head for two years, been shaving with a straight for over a year. I've tried shaving my head with a straight. Doable and very, very slow. I love using a straight, but it just takes me too long on the head.
