That brush should be alright...then again, a $8 VDH should be fine too. If you're looking for local stuff, here a few quick ideas:
Merlos: If you decide against the brush, pick up some Conk Amber...you may find that you like it. Those Spilo razors look like rebranded Dovos...might be worth a shot as they have one with a blade marked as Bismarck for $90.
Wal-Mart: VDH soaps and brushes
If you have an upscale cigar store in town, check them out as they may carry some great products too. We have a cigar store in Fresno that carries Conk, Trumpers, and Art of Shaving.

Thanked: 3no I haven't made it in yet. I currently have a synthetic/boar? no name. the vdh's look like they would be a little on the little side and for $8 it is a synthetic right? I am wanting to try a badger and see what all the fuss is about.
On a side note I have used williams soap for ever(way before I finally took the plunge and got a straight) well after reading the on going thread about that I went and got a puick of vdh. Real nice smell. Put my cup in a bowl of HOT water(poor boy scuttle) and the soap melted. WOW. well I got some of the best lather yet(can you get TO UBBER?). started to thicken up as it cooled(reforming soap?)
