Default What a difference real Hot water in a scuttle makes

    My Friends-

I did something for myself today- color me selfish

for 6+ months I have been running hot tap water onto a brush and then later into, around and inside my GT scuttle and while its been better than nothing it wasn't really hot.

I have searched and thought about one of the lathering machines but in the end knew it was really a wasteful thing for me. A barber I ain't and the volume a machine yields for the time, space etc just didn't feel right.

So.........I installed a instant hot water tank thing made by Insinkerator and now I have on tap water at 190 degrees-
Holy smokes guys it really works well with a scuttle.
and even just to heat/soak the brush and hit the creme was so much better than what I had before its not even funny.
I would not risk it for just wetting a blade- too hot

The coolest thing about them is it takes only about 3-4 seconds to get really hot water. These things work pretty well for a bathroom lavatory but they pull a lot of power. Just make sure you aren't overloading your wiring when you install it.

It sounds like you have a real hot water producer there. Just make sure that the water is so hot that it makes your lather break down.

I too love quite hot water, but be *very* careful if you have children or elderly people in your house.
Water at that temperature will burn if the cold suddenly disappears and the showerer can't get out quickly enough.

Man thats great. I usually just simmer water on the stove first. Would love to have one of those. you can also wet a towel for your face for a preshave soak. Congrats.

    Default Thanks Guys

I don't know if I have the guts to heat a towel with it yet- yikes....maybe
When I used hot tap, when the sahve was done the water in the scuttle was somewhere between lukewarm and tepid at best so I never really got the later worth a darn hot.

So far, with only one shave with it I have not seen a lather breakdown but I am real careful not to use but a splash of water.

Now soaking the brush...actually more like a long dip in this real hot water and hitting the Castle Forbes and right to the face is pretty
much the cat's meow, then brush into the scuttle and start whipping while the beard softens.

No kiddos or elderly here except for the spousal unit and I.

The hot water is not for the whole room/shower, it just is mounted
next to the sink like a filtered water tap. Odd thing is you can get one at Lowes/Home Depot for under $200 but they only come in brush nickel-
If you want it in white or brass its a bunch more.

They draw a hair over 6 amps which is only going to be a problem if the wife fires up her 1875 watt blow dryer on the same GFI.
If it happens I will wire around the hot and give the heater its own GFI.

I agree!..I bought my black shave scuttle from SRD!...amazing how much a str8 razor well strop'd and warm lather combo feels!...mmmm...only a month of str8 razor shaving but man its relaxing!..BTW..a scuttle helps warms yer lather warm by filling the hole area with hot water no need to rinse yer blade under the tap for fear of damage...wipe blade on a moist rag which helps remove cream and excess

    good Luck to all!
