Thanked: 0Seeing Equally
Hi all.
One of the main problems I have when shaving is vision through my left eye. The right eye is excellent, but my left has always been a little lazy. This means that I have trouble seeing the fine detail on the left hand side of the face (i.e., cut whiskers etc) because parts of it (particularly below the jawline) is out of the periphery of my right eyes vision . This isn't a problem with a Mac3 etc, but will certainly be so with a straight. To solve this I'm considering getting an extending/swivel type mirror - the types that have two sides (flip over), one normal, one magnifying. I'll use this to project the image of the left side onto the main mirror; or perhaps I'll be able to use it alone .
I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem, how they've solved it, or if anyone has used these types of mirror.
Thanks, Andrew.

Here's Lookin' At You Kid
I have one of those mirrors hanging in my bathroom and the only complaint I have is that the little stem undermeath the mirror sometimes gets in my way so you might want to look for a brand without such a stem. Otherwise it's absolutely flawless for me. You can also do what I've lways done without terrible eyesight which is feel the stubble with your fingers. Very telling test that.

What I do is place my fingers where I want to start shaving and place the razor against the fingernail and I use that as a guide. Eventually with experience you won't have to worry about a mirror.

I put my finger nail towards the razor behind the razor not in front of it and just stroke down from there. Anotherwords in doing the left side of my face I place my second and third fingers of my right hand at the base of my sideburn and stretch up and put the razor right at the nails of those fingers and go down from there while holding the razor in my left hand. The razor is blocked from my view but it acts as a guide. Never cut myself yet, at least not doing that manuever.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the clarification, I guess I'll have to learn to be ambidextrous.
Xman, I guess your talking about shaving 'against'? I won't even consider that until I can shave properly 'with'.

Yeah, I'm talking about going against at the end. I was ready to do that out of the gate since I basically only ever shaved against the grain with garbage razors, but you should do what you're comfortable with.
