    Thumbs up New Straight...Weigh In...

Ok, I have 2 DOVO Straights a 6/8 & a 5/8 and a Stainless Rudolf Stehlo. I want to purchase a quality razor. I hear everyone rave about their TI's and their Henkels. I am looking for a 6/8 a 7/8 or even an 8/8 blade. I see that The Shaving Shop has quite a few larger blade razors. So now is the time for all the users who care to, to weigh in and tell me why I should buy their favorite razor. FYI I am a 52 y/o Italian - American who has a thick beard HAS to shave everyday.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Jim

My favorite, on thick beard too, is the Henkells Friodur 7/8. You wont do wrong with that one...

Never shaved with the Friodur's but I gotta say the TI is an awesome instrument. Maybe it's 6 of one and a half dozen of the next.

    Jim,

I might recommend a 7/8 Wade & Butch wedge for heavy beards. I have one I got on ebay and it could mow down trees. Good heavy solid feel. I really love mine. That's my 2cents.

Oh man, you'll be sorry you started this one. Prepare to get thoroughly confused because everyone will tell you to buy their favorite razor and everyone has one and everyone will be right. In the end you have to buy what you like. If its a quality razor no matter the name on it you'll get a great shave.

Oh yea, my recommendation, get yourself a vintage Double Duck they are fantastic shavers, either a satin edge or goldedge if you have the big bucks go for a wonderedge.

    Jim,

Just wondering, is there a problem with your Dovor razors or the Rudolph Stehlo?

I have a Henckels SS Friodur in a 6/8+. It has nice edge retention and shaves well. With a heavy beard go for 7/8 or 8/8. John Crowley has some nice wares on his site.

I can't disagree with Superfly on this one. The 7/8 Friodur cuts effortlessly. Another good choice (although a little more expensive) is the 6/8 TI Egyptian. That particular Ti is probably my favorite. Best of luck...

No, there is nothing wrong with my other razors. I am looking to get another two or three so I can rotate them throughout the week.

    Thanks,
