    Default back of my head

I have a problem. I shave my head with the str8 but get him on the back of my head not really smooth. On top of my head I shave from front to back, against the hair into. Is it possible for me to do this also at the back without cutting myself? Is that a question of courage, or is there a special technique? If I feel Whith my hand with the hairs along it is smooth, but ironing my hand against the hear than I still feel stubble.(only at the back)
Any ideas or any tips are welcome. I use for this piece now a DE, but do want to use the str8 for this part of my head.

I used to use a straight on my head and always went with the grain. I looked terribly awkward when I shaved the back part because I would touch my chin to my chest to stretch the skin on the back of my neck, and then proceed slowly to shave.

The part around the occipital bump at the back of you rhead can be particularly tricky. I usually did my first pass using a mirror and then the second pass I did by feel with my skin stretched.

I do the back of my head by feel, but it took awhile to get there. I started out by just doing small parts that I was comfortable with while "learning the lay of the land" and learning to operate the razor by feel alone.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Yes it is possible to do it against the grain, and yes it is a matter of courage and skill. No, there is no special technique other than what is necessary to avoid scalping yourself. Keep at it, you will get there eventually.

+1 what Jimbo and others have allready said. I do very short strokes on the back of my head and being very careful, when I fell the smallest pull I stop and go back some. I also feel with my free hand just infront of the blade and if I´m not happy I go back and smear some lather with my fingers ower the area I was not happy with and go forward again.

Today i have my back of my head shaved, (Against the Grain), but only two spots of blood. one of a pimple that I had cut open and the other because i did my head not far enough forward so i cut . Furthermore, it feels now smooth on the back. Thanks for helping me to get over the sill. Still a lot to learn, but we go through.

The DE is almost in the closet.
