    Default Shaving Update

Well for those of you who care:

After a number of shaves (I lost count, but generally ever other day), things are going very well. I picked up my straight and since then no other type of razor has touched my face. I have been using the razor that Lynn had given to me, and I cherish it. I bought another from Bill so that I could give this one a break and not used it ALL the time.

Sure I still have those few spots on the face and neck that without doubt I'll nick almost every time, and yes I am still having some isses due to nicking myself with the corner of that square edge, but I will figure that out all in good time.

I have the stropping thing under control and even used Tony's pasted strop once and it worked very well...although I did have one instance when I wasnt paying attention and probably shaved off a bit of that diamond paste however I cant tell a difference.

So I guess once I get comfortable with Tonys pasted strop I will take the plunge into honing a razor...but all in good time. I am barely home enough to used the pasted strop for now.

At any rate...all in all things are great and thanks to everyone for all the help along the way. And a very special thanks to Lynn for helping me get started with the actual shaving!

I tried the honing thing straight away and it turned out not to be a disaster like I dreaded. Offcourse I only used cheap razors.... But also for the past week no other razor than a straight has touched my face....the chin and the area just underneath it are a bit hard to do though. Any tricks for that?

Sorry but like I said there's no freeway to shaving bliss. Just practice, practice , practice. The more you use the straight the more facility you will gain in its manipulation and the areas you find difficult now you will one day look back and think why did I ever have a problem with that.

Personally, I just tighten the skin on my chin and go straight down my chin and around it towards my neck in one stroke. But please don't try that at home until your real comfortable with quick angle changing as you shave. You must be able to hug the edge of your chin with the edge of your razor as you shave. It was the last of the basic moves I mastered in shaving and it took months to get it right.

I am not good at stretching the skin yet, but I can tell you that that around the chin area I use MUCH less of an angle on the blade and pay twice as much attentio to the pressue I am using, and that REALLY seems to help.
