Pay Attention Dummy

I just gave myself the worst cut I have had in my short str8 shave history.
I only have 8 shaves in and, man you have got to pay attention.
I was going XTG on my right cheek while daydreaming about who knows what when, HELLO, the tip of my square point made a fillet cut.

This is my second blood shed and all because my mind was not in it.

You have discovered the joys and requirements of living in the moment. You should pay attention when you drive and you should pay attention when you shave with a blade that could cut your ear off.

Another way you can get a great cut is when you are used to 3" blades and then use a 3 1/2" blade. That's a great way to modify your earlobes!

Just be careful and have fun with it!

Very well said. That's the part of using a straight razor that I enjoy so much. It forces me to live in the moment.

I found the inside of my ear last week too. Interesting experience, good thing I had a light touch, shaving wise and ear wise. Yes I was listening to the kids fighting and not paying attention to the task at hand. I'm now practiced enough to listen and watch what I'm doing and I don't even flinch when the little terrors come in like a bunch of para-military special forces ops, busting trhough the door. I just say, "G'day kids, shut the door please, and don't hang off my arm like that and swing around, I'm trying to shave."

This past Thursday evening I had one of the finest shaves I have had since I started down this str8 shaving path. I was so thrilled as I was putting things away I went to dry the blade and nearly sliced off the tip of my finger. I bled for several hours and thought it could use 2-3 stitches but did not want to go to the hospital to sit and wait so I managed it myself.
The point of the post is you can never stop paying attention until the blade is safely put away.

That's funny (well, maybe not funny), probably the worst SR cut I've had wasn't on my face, it was on my pinky finger. The cut was so clean I didn't realize that I had done it for a minute, until the bleeding was more than apparent.

Shaving now is like therapy for me. It used to be such a chore that I got to where I just mowed the beard in the shower.
I really enjoy shaving, and the art of shaving.
It will take a whole lot more to run me off, but I will try to remain focused.

ahhh yes, do not let the mind wander it will get you every time. It has happend to me a few times.

My first shave I slide the razor sideways just as I was lifting it off my cheek on one pass. Gave myself a nice quick clean cut and learned to pay close attention since shave 1.

I think most straight razor shavers have sacrificed some blood at some point.
