Milestone after Milestone
I have now been shaving solely with a straight razor for 3 months. As my technique has improved, I have gotten better and better shaves and I am to the point where I have a routine for shaving in an efficient manner. I made my own brush (with a TGN knot) and stand, have acquired several different soaps and creams and I have had my razor honed by Lynn when I was still a new and working on my technique, however now that I feel I have the technique down to achieve the shave I want I decided to give the touch up hone a try.
As a newbie I have acquired two razors, a DOVO Best Quality and a George Wostenholm and Son Pipe Razor. I recently purchased a barbers hone from the classifieds here on SRP and today I decided to refresh the edge on my G. Wostenholm razor. I got out the hone and gave it 7 strokes, stropped it up and gave it a shave..... The edge was fine and smooth, it was the smoothest that particular blade has ever felt.
With these milestones come great excitement and a great feeling of accomplishment. I look forward to more in the future.

Very cool. I love the feeling of accomplishing something. I also love using something I made myself, especially if it works better than what I've previously used.

Thanked: 9Congratulations,
Sounds like you are progressing perfectly. Actually I started on April 13th, so we are apparently at a similar place in time spent and progression. I hope you are enjoying the straight shaves as much as I have. Barber hones work well don't they?
Thanks,
Gerald

Awesome. You started off on the right foot and are quickly becoming a self-made man. Congratulations. It's quite a thrill to possess a perpetually renewable shaving edge, eh? The ultimate F U to the cartridge corporations.
Whoopee!
